About National Rail and Transportation Institute : Realising the opportunity to bring in transformational change not only in the transportation sector, but in nation-building on a larger scale, the Indian Railways has established India’s first university focused on transport and allied industries. National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), Vadodara (Gujarat) is a pioneer in the field of transport education in India. It is the first-of-its-kind university with a vision to develop a cadre of young graduates who are empowered problem-solvers  with an actionable understanding of the transportation ecosystem. A Deemed to be University under the de Novo category, NRTI is specifically established to create a resource pool of best-in-class professionals for the railway and transportation sector.

The Institute will follow a demand-driven curriculum, while aligning with industry priorities. About the course(s)

(a) BBA Transportation Management (School of Management & Leadership) : This is a specialised programme focussed on management practices in the context of the transportation sector. The curriculum is designed to introduce young minds to develop new ideas, innovative concepts, refined skills and in-depth knowledge to question, evaluate, invent and redefine surface transport ecosystems in India and the world.

(b) BSc Transportation Technology (School of Engineering & Applied Sciences) : Meant to prepare a cadre of transportation technologists and specialists, this programme focusses on technology and its application in the field of transportation. It is designed to orient young minds to finding technology solutions through the application of new ideas, knowledge and skills and play a crucial role in India’s rapid march to intelligent transport systems of the future.

Course structure : Students will have the freedom to shape their academic programme through a choice-based credit system and course selection from a broad set. Each course will be offered under one of the following heads :

a) Foundation courses: Subjects that help develop and nurture a strong, broad-based academic and intellectual foundation, essential for the degree

b) Core courses: These pertain to the programme’s main field of study and will generally correspond to domain knowledge

c) Elective courses: These will include topics related to specialisation or concentration, as well as interdisciplinary subjects that may not be directly related to the core field of study

Selection criteria : Students will be offered admission to the Inaugural Cohort (2018-21) of the BSc and BBA programmes on the basis of the following :

(a) Class XII Board Examination marks

(b) NRTI Admissions Test (test date and locations across the country to be announced shortly)

Eligibility criteria

BSc in Transportation Technology is open to Science Stream Students (with mandatory Class XII Mathematics)

BBA in Transportation Management is open students from all Streams (with mandatory Class XII Mathematics)

Applicants must have successfully completed their 10+2 Board examination with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC/SC/ST) and be below the age of 25 years as on August 1, 2018

How to apply : Applications need to be made online on the institute portal

1. Register online at www.nrti.in

2. Registered students will be shortlisted (based on Class XII board results) to take an NRTI Admission Aptitude Test. Shortlisted students will be contacted and requested to apply online to select a test centre location, and upload relevant documents (CLass XII Marksheets, photograph, etc.) and pay an application fee. The test will be administered in July 2018 at specified test centres located across the country. Test date and locations will be announced shortly.

3. Final list of candidates will be selected based on NRTI Admission Aptitude Test result ranking.
